A quick observation for today; in the New York Times today there’s this:

The economic aid package that Mr. Obama will talk about on Thursday is meant to show democracy protesters, and Arab governments, that the United States stands behind the democracy movement and will reward governments that make reforms. Administration officials announced $1 billion in loan guarantees to Egypt, and $1 billion in debt swaps, along with trade and economic development proposals. Administration officials said an unspecified amount would be channelled to economic development help in Tunisia.

Reward governments that make reforms??!!

How arrogant can you get?

They’re going to borrow money from the Chinese – money that the American people are eventually going to have to pay back – and give it to the Egyptians and Tunisians as a reward.

And the administration wonders why the peoples of the world don’t like America. And, if they’re going to borrow money, why don’t they borrow a workable amount instead of a miserly billion? I mean, it’s not like they can’t afford to; after all, they’re spending $10 billion A MONTH on the war in Afghanistan!

The current US administration, both houses of congress and the lions share of the judiciary are THE MOST CORRUPT bunch of liars this Nation has ever been forced to endure, and it will be the end of us all.
The entire US government is now a wholly owned subsidiary of corporate special interests, and what's worse, they rarely even attempt to hide that fact at all anymore.
Good luck fellow travelers, for we will all be in the wilderness together, so be friendly to those you meet on the trail.

Damian mate,
Have you noticed how in recent times the yanks are sounding and acting more and more like the British post WW2 where exhausted by war the cupboard was bare in trying to keep the empire going.
Thus began a downward spiral (which continues to the present day) of cuts, increased incompetance and hubris but where ultimately no-one really believed in them anymore as the life was drained out of their economy and the empire.

You point out the stingy aid and I agree, they also just don't have the same arrogant swagger they used to have (which we all here despised and mocked in private) either.

Contrast that with an interesting story I read yesterday where the Chinese are trading more and more with Pakistan to the tune of $37,000 million and doing useful engaging acts like opening cultural centres in their respective nations, scholarships, even sending doctors to do 1000 cataract operations in Pakistan- all which touch ordinary people.
Plus they Chinese are to launch a Pakistani satellite later this year and even offering to see the sleek J-20 stealth fighter to Pakistan when its ready!.
Just one squadron of J-20's would hit our RAAF for six surely!.
Reading Dr Carlo Kopp's perceptive analysis of the J-20 over time shows up our RAAF corrupt and maudlin obsession with the F-35 and shows the real contrast between the yanks in terminal decline and the pragmatic Chinese now.
They say the Chinese told the yanks that they should respect Pakistan and the hint ws that if the yanks ever attacked Pakistan then the Chinese would consider that aggression to be an attack on China itself!.
Bloody hell!.

Your observation is cogent and seems to add to the widespread view internationally that at long last we are all shrugging off the tyranny of the American empire and seeing them for what they really are, feckless, over-exuberant bullies with no credibility and even less affection by the rest of the world .

I must say I'm immensely enjoying seeing the yanks flounder and fade away.
Good riddance to the rotters!.
