GORDON BROWN’S CLEVER AFGHANISTAN PLAN

Here’s British Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s idea of an ‘Afghanistan plan’: see if we can’t talk the Taliban into killing each other.

That’s a plan??!!

Here’s a better plan: all drive to Bagram airbase, all get on the next airplane, and then all LEAVE. Then, with the billions saved, build a health system that actually works, build more aged care facilities, (we're going to need them soon) and build a better education system – and do it all so everyone at some stage gets to use it for free.

When you get to aged 90 and with no money, you don’t care if it’s called ‘socialism’; you can call it whatever you like. Chances are, when you've got to aged 90, you've forgotten what the word 'socialism' means anyway.

The problem with the alternate plan is that if all of the foreign forces currently deployed on a UN mandate leave, the place will fall back into Taliban hands.

Then we face issues of what about healthcare for Afghans? And about avoiding extremist Taliban sanctions against women? And also about terrorists once again being given refuge and using Afghanistan to plan attacks on the West with impunity?

Saving money might be great for white westerners to leave Afghanistan, so that they can improve their own public services, but Afghans deserve the same opportunities, instead of abandoning them to a bunch of right-wing theocratic thugs.

Once the foreigners leave, the people of Afghanistan must find their own self-determination. It's up to the people of Afghanistan to determine their own destiny.

For the West to pretend that we have their welfare intersts at heart is plain hypocrisy. The only reason the West went to Afghanistan is in order to maintain Western hegemony in the region and to build a gas pipeline from the Caspian to Karachi.

The only thugs there at the moment are the Western armies who are killing Afghans by the thousands.
