It seems that Jenny Hume over at Webdiary still has absolutely no idea of what racism is all about.
She and her husband may be intrigued to learn that racism is not just about blood and biology as their simplistic upbringing may have taught them but also is about religion and culture, a new racism that they themselves are a part of.
Jenny Hume and Ian McDougall really have no idea about progressive politics in Australia and are simply at Webdiary to promote their own ideas about how they would like to see their ideal of a racist and inclusive ‘Australia’. Their idealistic dreamlike Australia bears no resemblance to the real world that Australia actually needs to be a part of. Their heads are firmly buried in the sands of their own restrained vision of the world that precludes entirely the reality of what is going on around them. To suggest that racism is simply a blood and biology thing without religious or cultural considerations is totally delusional.

Damian, with sadness in my heart, over months I have watched Webdiary spiral down and down. Occasionally I have been tempted to comment but refrained from doing so. There didn't seem to be any point!
Webdiary is now close to the point of total irrelevance. It is a blog mainly made up of cliques, religious extremists, students, gossipers and one-eyed moderators.
Though a few genuine, thinking contributors remain they are struggling to be heard above the clamor of the peanut gallery.
What Webdiary can do to lift its game I don't know. I think it's gone past the point of no return.
That's a great loss!
I couldn't agree more with you David. As you say, those few that do make an effort to inject serious debate seem to just get overwhelmed by the moronic propagandists or ignored by those that prefer to push their own personal barrow of self-righteousness.
What a waste of an opportunity!
G'day Damian and David, WD is in a state of too much of nothing.
Richard had to do more crawling up Pahoff's arse with his "disrespectful to Jewish people" and such comments. I note that Bill Avent's suggestion that evidence was required to support such comments none has been forthcoming. When I have in the past raised concerns about Curran's racist bile and what amounts to calls for the genocide of the Palestinians, nothing is said or done. That are being way too obvious.
On another matter, I assume you've seen John Dean's article on Cheney's lie of lies. Have posted it this afternoon. And he'll get away with it.
If I had posted it at WD I would probably have been accused of being anti-American. But then some like to live within their delusions.
G’day Bob
If you haven’t already read it, I would highly recommend Isikoff and Corn’s book; ‘Hubris: The Inside Story of Spin, Scandal, and the Selling of the Iraq War’ (Random House, 2006). It goes into detail on how Cheney conned Armey – and the rest of America!
The crew at WD have fallen into the self perpetuating propaganda trap that they at first decried themselves but now seem to be a part of. Curran is just plain nuts; a compulsive obsessive who just can’t help himself whenever he sees anything that even remotely smacks of being ‘leftish’. He is typical of the type of right-wing knee jerk blogger that one might encounter at Tim Blair’s.
As for Richard; he’s completely lost his way.
G'day Damian, books come out to confirm the facts ... but those with their eyes open could see through the spin before the invasion. Some still have their eyes very determinedly closed.
Curran as obsessive, well, that could explain why he submits his posts (or, at least, used to) as "sort of stream of consciousness" - just spews them out.
It's a very valid point that racism amounts to cultural or religious prejudice as well.
The vehemently bigoted canards against Jews that have come out since 9/11, ranging from "responsibility" for that particular attack, to "ruling" the world, banks, media etc, deem it necessary for another noble public figure to point the finger at today's racists.
"J'Accuse" indeed.
