It seems fairly clear that Israel has over the past few months put considerable effort into setting up the Palestinians in the Gaza for re-invasion and occupation – a scenario which I suggested would happen as part of Israel’s long term goal of displacing the population and annexing the Gaza Strip as part of an eventual Greater Israel.
By shelling and bombing innocent Palestinians and carry out extra-judicial executions on Palestinian activists the Israelis have deliberately goaded the Palestinians into taking retaliatory action. That action occurred last Sunday when a large group of Palestinian fighters struck at an Israeli border post destroying at least two Israeli vehicles, including a tank, and killing two Israeli soldiers and wounding others including one that was captured.
Already Israeli troops and tanks are massing at the border in readiness to invade on the pretext that they will be searching for their missing soldier, the Frenchmen Cpl. Gilad Shalit.
In latest reports it is being inferred that Israel will only invade the Gaza if Cpl. Shalit is no returned immediately. This inference is being reinforced by the fact that the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, has called upon his own security people in the Gaza to search for the Israeli.[1]
The reality is, however, that, even if Cpl. Shalit is returned safely to Israel, the Israelis will not be able to leave the matter at that. They will still need to invade in order to come good on their promise to bring the perpetrators of Shalit’s capture, not to mention the killers of two other Israeli soldiers that were killed in the process, to ‘justice’. Ehud Olmert has said: “I gave the orders to our military commanders to prepare the army for a broad and ongoing military operation to strike the terrorist leaders and all those involved," he said. "It should be clear. There will be immunity for no one.”[2]
It will, therefore, only be a matter of time before the inevitable happens, and when it does there is likely to be a blood bath – and it will be one that Israel has deliberately provoked. The idea is to terrorise the Palestinian population to the point that they would not wish to remain in the Gaza anyway. The invasion with its accompanying bloodshed and destruction of communities will, the Israelis hope, drive the Palestinians from the Gaza.
Do not be surprised to hear that the Israelis will open a corridor between the Gaza and the West Bank to allow ‘refugees’ from the fighting to move from the Gaza.
Of course, I could be wrong – I do hope so.
THE RIGHT-WING POP GROUP, ‘TIM BLAIR AND THE MORONS’, together with his band of dumb and gullible groupies, are rubbing their grubby little hands together with glee at the apparently upcoming demise of Webdiary. (26 July 2006 is the day the money runs out.) It’s a pity that not one of those that comment at Tim Blair, including Blair himself, are able to formulate any sort of constructive idea other than to abuse and insult those that comment at Webdiary or are otherwise not of the right-wing. In other words, Tim Blair’s entire purpose in life, it seems, is to spend it trying to discredit the Left. He and his blathering followers have not ever once contributed an idea that may actually enhance life on our planet.
