It must be very frustrating for them what with being so close to all that lovely oil yet not quite being able to do anything about it - at least not just yet. That's why I reckon that it is more about the hegemony over the supply of all (which you suggest) rather than just getting their hands on it for the sake of instant treasure. The nexus is a back scratching exercise for all of the plyers with a vested interest.

And don't forget, they're nowhere near their endgame yet. There is still a lot to play out from their point of view.Damian Lataanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06886295381135372084noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7708970.post-49037328980319695282007-09-21T15:35:00.000+09:302007-09-21T15:35:00.000+09:30I suspect Big Oil is not on board with the neocons...I suspect Big Oil is not on board with the neocons on this one. Keeping Iraqi oil in the ground served a purpose in achieving taking a disruptive price/supply influence out of the equation, but Iranian extraction is vital to supplying the European market and it is unlikely that the seven sisters could maintain profit levels without it.

Surety of supply is paramount.

It looks like the neocons are winning though. They have the benefit of not giving a f*** about public opinion.cringinginamazementhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09074260218559495172noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7708970.post-28682093764781496702007-09-14T15:36:00.000+09:302007-09-14T15:36:00.000+09:30I've no doubt Daniel. Apart from ‘institutional America’, there are indeed many Americans that go along with the idea of ‘American Exceptionalism’ but there are many more who are now starting to get over the numb shock of what was 9/11 and are slowly beginning to wake up to the reality of where ‘institutional America’ has taken them and that not all is as it has been told to them. Americans are a proud people and they don’t like being conned – and especially not by their leaders; it goes against every thing that they cherish as true and to the very heart of what they believe.

Many ordinary Americans are starting to hurt financially and show signs of financial struggle and for many of them the fact that this war has cost them much treasure, and for a lot of families much blood as well, and, as it turns out, for no good reason, is going to arouse their ire. Hopefully they will be able to see what is really going on around them before they are blinded yet again by something far worse and more devastating for both them and the rest of world.Damian Lataanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06886295381135372084noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7708970.post-86249967828259680112007-09-14T14:55:00.000+09:302007-09-14T14:55:00.000+09:30I wouldn't be so sure, Damian. I think there are a lot of Americans who'd be quite happy if their country ran the world for the benefit of America.

Of course there are also a lot of Americans who are horrified at what their 'leadership' is doing!

What the proportions are we'll never know.Danielhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02798600572745255535noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7708970.post-42965455076422968372007-09-14T14:11:00.000+09:302007-09-14T14:11:00.000+09:30I think, Daniel, that we need to make the distinct...I think, Daniel, that we need to make the distinction between ‘America’ the people and ‘America’ the right-wing Israeli-supporting institution as represented by the current Bush administration, the neoconservatives, Big Oil, Big Military, etc., who are driving the world up to the edge of the abyss. The ‘Final Confrontation’ serves all of their interests but does not serve the interest of the peoples of the Middle East – nor the people of ‘America’.Damian Lataanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06886295381135372084noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7708970.post-8823286529075268122007-09-14T13:24:00.000+09:302007-09-14T13:24:00.000+09:30That such madness is being planned by imperialist ...That such madness is being planned by imperialist Israel and America is not surprising given the crazies who lead both of their countries.

America is most to blame because, without American support, Israel would have never achieved the dangerous military strength that it has.

The rest of the civilized world has to stop this Middle East escalation before it begins. Once it starts, we begin the non-stop downward spiral.Danielhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02798600572745255535noreply@blogger.com
